Stephen Curry, the star player of the Golden State Warriors, is widely regarded as one of the best point guards in NBA history. The 36-year-old has been a fan favorite due to his exceptional three-point shooting skills.
Additionally, Curry, who was recently seen partying with LeBron James, is credited with revolutionizing the sport by inspiring teams and players to take more three-point shots. Moreover, the four-time NBA champion has delivered several clutch performances against a Phoenix Suns point guard multiple times.
Isaiah Thomas recently appeared on the Knuckleheads podcast and shared a story about competing against Curry. Thomas explained that Curry was the first person to ‘bust his a**’ when he entered the league.
“It was Curry, for sure…And they had that Bay Area little rivalry. When I first got to the league, the Warriors weren’t really good. They were kind of on the fence about being good. So, like, Curry was one… That was one, that was a tough one.” Thomas said.
Thomas observed that although the Warriors were not initially excellent, he encountered tough competition from them first when he played against Curry, one of the greatest players of all time.
Thomas Overcomes Tough Competition From Curry To Find His Rhythm
Thomas acknowledged that Curry provided extremely tough competition, but he managed to find his groove later. However, Thomas admitted that Curry, widely regarded as the best shooter in NBA history, was definitely one of the opponents who challenged him early on.
“We had our battles, but yeah, he got me, he got me a few times. Until I tried to slowly start figuring it out. Then, my opportunity came more. So that was the thing he was getting me, and I couldn’t get back to him. So, once my opportunities started coming, I started to get my get back. But yeah, Curry was… Steph was definitely one of the guys that got me early.” Thomas added.
Steph Curry recently made NBA history by becoming the first player to earn $60 million in a single season. He agreed to a one-year, $62.6 million contract extension with the Warriors for the 2026–2027 season.
According to StatMuse, the two-time NBA MVP averaged 26.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.5 rebounds in 74 games in the 2023-24 season. The first game of the upcoming season for Curry will be against the Sacramento Kings, and it promises to be an exciting matchup.
