WNBA guards Caitlin Clark and DiJonai Carrington had a spirited battle on Wednesday in Indiana, and it was the Fever rookie sensation who had the last laugh as Fever defeated the Connecticut Sun 84-80.
Late in the third quarter, Clark had a fitting response to Carrington’s silencer celebration that sent the hometown fans wild.
After draining a triple with 3:50 to go in the third frame to narrow their deficit to three points, 62-59, the Sun guard put her index finger on her lips to silence the Fever faithful.
But Clark immediately raced back to their side of the floor, shook off the defense of Carrington with a pump fake, and then drained a two-point basket to extend their lead to five, 64-59, at the 3:41 mark of the period.

The basket was two of Clark’s 19-point total for the game, which she peppered with five rebounds and five assists in 38 minutes of play. She also had three triples to set a new WNBA record for threes made by a rookie at 88, beating the previous record of 85 by Rhyne Howard of the Atlanta Dream set in 2022.
Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 23 points in the Fever win, which improved them to a 15-16 record, good for seventh spot in the standings.
Indiana next plays on Friday against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on the road. Meanwhile, Carrington had 19 points to lead the Sun (22-8), who saw their 11-game winning streak over the Fever halted with the loss.
Caitlin Clark says Fever a better team these days
Indiana Fever freshman guard Caitlin Clark believes they are now a better team than at the season’s start and it is showing with results.
The top overall pick in this year’s WNBA draft shared this ahead of their game against the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday, highlighting how the team has a better feel of its identity now and delivering.
Clark said (via Athlon Sports):
“It feels like a different season, honestly. For myself, I feel like I was a completely different player then … back then, we didn’t really even know our identity as a team and how we really wanted to play.”
The Fever started their campaign with a 1-8 card but have since gone 14-8 while willing themselves in the thick of the playoff race.
Caitlin Clark has been a key moving piece for the team, with steady norms heading into Wednesday’s game averaging 18 points, 8.2 assists (league-high), 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 36 minutes of play.
