On Thursday night, NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were fatally struck by a drunk driver in a Jeep while they were on bikes. The man arrested for the act is 43-year-old Sean M. Higgins.
When initially arrested, Higgins had told officers that he had “five or six” beers before hitting the Gaudreau brothers. He then failed a sobriety test on Friday, making his case even worse.
Now, on Friday, Higgins appeared virtually in court for the first time in front of a judge and gave an extremely shocking reaction to the judge. Judge Michael J. Silvanio told Higgins that he would be held in jail for another six days, to which he replied, “So I’m here until Thursday.”
Silvano then explained to Higgins a law that requires him to be held for at least 72 hours before he can get another hearing. Because of Memorial Day weekend coming up, the hearing would be extended to Thursday.
This news upset Higgings, who leaned back, rolled his eyes, and let out a loud sign for anyone on the call to hear.
Of course, that’s not a good look for Higgins, who has already been charged with two counts of second-degree death by auto and, if found guilty, could be facing extremely severe consequences.
Matthew And Johnny Gaudreau Leave Behind Amazing Careers and Lives
Not only were both the Gaudreau brothers known for their amazing accomplishments on the ice as both played at Boston College and had professional experience, but each are remembered for being great people.
“Just devastating news for all of us connected with the Gaudreau family,” Jerry York, who coached both at Boston College, said in a phone interview with the Associated Press. “Both Matty and Johnny were terrifically admired by all of us. Wonderful young guys, and they impressed a lot of us off the ice.”
