Jerry Jones Announces Major Front Office Decision After The Cowboys Fail To Make The Playoffs During Disappointing 2024 Season
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wasted little time making one thing clear after the club’s regular season concluded on Sunday: Jerry the GM isn’t going anywhere.
Calls for Jerry Jones to relinquish the general manager duties grew significantly during a disappointing 2024 season that saw Dallas finish 7-10, missing out on the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
Per The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Jones told reporters after the game that he will retain his duties as the Cowboys’ general manager. Jones has kept himself in the GM and president chairs since he purchased the football team in 1989.
Also of note for Cowboys fans: Jones stated that he has not made a final decision on head coach Mike McCarthy, whose five-year contract is up.
After a season that fell well short of expectations, it’s obvious that significant changes must be made in Big D. But any drastic changes will be made by the man who rarely likes to do that: Mr. Jones himself.
Jerry Jones Fails To Accept Responsibility Again
Jones stated last January that Dallas would have an “all-in” approach to the offseason. Yet he didn’t sign Derrick Henry because Jones claimed they could not afford him.
He waited way too late to extend quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, causing unnecessary drama and distractions. He refused to make a coaching change after last year’s humiliating playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers.
But hey, at least the Cowboys keep on selling tickets.
