Caitlin Clark’s WNBA rookie season ended Wednesday after the Indiana Fever’s 87-81 loss to the Connecticut Sun. The Fever gave it their all but couldn’t take the series to Indiana. Instead of going to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for Game 3, Clark and her teammates start a well-deserved vacation.

Clark later took to Instagram and shared a post about the Iowa Hawkeyes’ women’s basketball program getting another sold-out season, its second straight. She issued a plea to her school and the fans:

With Clark leading the charge last season, the Hawkeyes became one of basketball’s most watched teams. As the stakes grew bigger in the NCAA Tournament, the attendance and viewership also spiked. Iowa’s championship showdown against South Carolina, per multiple reports, became the most watched collegiate basketball game ever – men’s or women’s.

Clark isn’t suiting up for the Hawkeyes anymore but the program continues to attract crowds largely because of her legacy. Fans watching Iowa’s game versus Missouri Western on Oct. 30 could get an added treat if the Indiana Fever star attends the Hawkeyes’ season opener.

Caitlin Clark’s name is on the Iowa Hawkeyes’ home floor

In January 2024, Caitlin Clark put on a show for the home fans against Michigan. She dropped a career-high 49 points in leading the Iowa Hawkeyes to a 106-89 victory. During the game, Clark’s deep 3-pointer broke the NCAA women’s all-time scoring record held by Kelsey Plum.

To commemorate the historic feat, Iowa carved Clark’s name and number on the exact spot where she hit the record-breaking shot. Fans who go to the Carver-Hawkeye Arena will unmistakably see the memento of that special night on the team’s home floor.

Caitlin Clark couldn’t lead Indiana to a playoff win

Caitlin Clark told reporters after Game 1 that the Indiana Fever could bounce back in the rematch. She said the eye poke wasn’t an issue and expressed readiness to face the Connecticut Sun in Game 2.

Clark played better in the second game against the third-seeded Sun. She finished with a game-high 25 points on 10-for-23 shooting, including 3-for-12 from deep. The AP Rookie of the Year winner added nine assists, six rebounds, one steal and one block.

The Connecticut Sun, though, held on for an 87-81 victory behind Alyssa Thomas’ 19 points, 13 assists and five rebounds. Connecticut’s playoff experience proved to be decisive against the Fever’s desperate attempts to turn the game around.

Although the Fever were swept 2-0, Clark’s first year in the WNBA was a big success. She won the ROTY battle against rival Angel Reese and led Indiana to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
