In a September interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Grammy winner — who’s reportedly nearing billionaire status — opened up about why he’s chosen to stay single and celibate as his career continues at a high speed.

“Listen, when you calm down you can focus,” said 50 Cent. “I’ve been good to me.”

Colbert, 60, wondered why he’d want to continue making so much money without a romantic partner to spend his cash on — but 50 Cent doesn’t want a “complicated” marriage with someone who’s in it for the money.

“I am safe. I’m not a happy hostage. I’m here. I’m free,” he said of his unmarried status. “I made some mistakes, just not that one.”
