After two underwhelming PGA Tour events, Jay Monahan and Co. seem to have finally gathered some love from fans at their 4th event in La Quinta.

It was even noticed by Charley Hoffman, who ended up saying, “American Express saved this event,” referring to how the sponsor changed the vibe. Additional credit for generating the buzz goes to the youngest player on the field. Yes, we are talking about Blades Brown!

He made his professional debut at The American Express this week. But his name and game hit the headlines overnight. Especially after the new pro dazzled the PGA West Nicklaus Course with 10 birdies in round 2. It also included 6 birdies in a row with an impressive 8 under par. With such a strong start, expectations skyrocketed for the young talent, but unfortunately, Brown couldn’t sustain his momentum in the third round at the Pete Dye Stadium Course. What he said afterwards is now gaining more spotlight, with fans praising him.

Blades Brown sounds more determined after missing cut

In the third round, Brown hit three bogeys and a double bogey in his final 13 holes. The double bogey came when he put his tee shot in the water on the infamous par-3 17th with its island green. And just there, he missed the cut along with Sunday match chances. When asked about the same, the young lad demonstrated remarkable maturity.

He said, “Golf is such a funny game…I think mentally I was just a little drained, so I definitely can work on that.” He also disclosed one of his mantras, which he picked up from his Leukaemia-diagnosed father. “My dad always says, You win and you learn, and I’m definitely going to learn from this experience,” Brown shared.  But that’s not all! The youngest player also reflected his sportsmanship quality when he went on and thanked Jay Monahan & Co. saying, “I can’t thank American Express for letting me play in their golf tournament, it’s been so much fun.” 

He continued, “You’re gonna have good breaks from bad shots and bad breaks from good shots, but I’m gonna keep my head up… It’s gonna sting a little bit, but looking forward to what’s next.” Blades Brown’s excitement was further proved when he revealed his next step. “I’m playing in the Monday Q for the Farmers Insurance, so that would be awesome to be able to tee up next week, yeah.” 

The laser-focused golfer will be spotted next in the Farmers Insurance Open’s Monday Qualifier round. If qualified during the 18-hole format match, the new face will also be teeing off at the Torrey Pines Golf Course, which is again missing some big names.

Interestingly when PGA Tour’s official page posted his interview it quickly went viral and earned him outpouring support from netizens.

Blades Brown gain supporters after a humble response to the missed cut

After the PGA Tour posted the interview on their official Instagram page, one golf enthusiast praised Brown, saying, “Super mature. He has a bright future for sure, both because of his talent as well as his perspective and mindset.” Brown at 16 broke Bobby Jones’ record as the youngest medalist at stroke play in U.S. Amateur history, so yeah, talent sure is there.

Another Instagram user echoed this sentiment and drew a contrast between Brown and more experienced PGA Tour players. They said, “At least you weren’t the guy that spent half an hour in a bunker.” William Mouw, a Tour rookie got a lot of attention at La Quinta. He made an octuple bogey, tripped up by the notorious 18-foot-deep greenside bunker on the 16th hole.

A third fan chimed in with words of encouragement, saying, “BB, I am so proud of you. I know it stings, but there is so much to take from this weekend. We love you guys!” He continued, “Go low at Torrey,” referring to Blades Brown’s growing chances in the Farmers Insurance Open’s field.

Brown also faced some harsh criticism, with some commenters labeling him “annoying.” But fortunately, fans drowned out the negativity, hailing him as a “King.” While another supporter commented, “Kid is all class. Going to be great on Tour one day.” And we couldn’t agree more!
