Christian Walker’s trade rumors seem to be heating up, with several teams ready to sign the star slugger. Walker declined his $21.05 million qualifying offer with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Despite having more than 15 free-agent first basemen this offseason, Walker has a demand with many teams to keep an eye on him.
Initially, the Houston Astros and the New York Mets were considered top landing spots for Walker. However, the New York Yankees have emerged as a top suitor for Walker. The Bronx Bombers have a perfect reason to go after Walker.
The Yankees are looking for a replacement with Anthony Rizzo on the free-agent market. The Yankees declined their 2025 option for Rizzo and have not shown interest in extending his contract.
Rizzo’s future in the Bronx is questionable. It’s inevitable that the Yanks are on the lookout for a first baseman. Christian Walker will be a great fit and a decent replacement for Rizzo. Among all free agents, Pete Alonso is the other top target. Yet, Walker is predicted to sign before Alonso.
Christian Walker Could Be A Backup Plan If The Yankees Fail To Sign Juan Soto
The Yankees have Juan Soto as their primary target this offseason. If they fail to sign Soto, they are predicted to have Christian Walker as their backup plan. Along with Walker, Alex Bregman is also believed to be a backup plan for the Yanks.

The Yankees need to bolster their starting rotation. Soto alone will not be enough if they want to make another World Series run. Walker can take on Rizzo’s role, while Bregman can either play third base or shortstop. Jazz Chisholm Jr. can be moved to second base, and the entire lineup can become more robust.
According to Spotrac, Christian Walker is predicted to have a market value of $66 million for three years. His average annual salary could be close to $22.1 million. The Yankees can afford that money if they do not sign Soto.
Additionally, they should be able to sign Bregman if necessary. However, along with the New York Mets, the Yankees are one of the frontrunners for Soto.
