Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter was the talk of social media following his Heisman Trophy win on Saturday night, but so was his fiancé Leanna Lenee.
Hunter, who logged 92 catches for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns plus 32 tackles, 11 deflections, four interceptions, and a forced fumble this season, beat out Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who rushed for 2,497 yards and 29 touchdowns, by 214 points to win the prestigious award in New York City.
As Hunter and his family received praise on social media following his win, Lenee was the subject of several targeted attacks and harassment because she remained sitting after Hunter was announced as the Heisman winner while everyone else in his inner circle stood and applauded.
It wasn’t until she was nudged in the back by Colorado head coach Deion Sanders that Lenee stood and cheered for her fiancé.
Many of the derogatory things wrote about her insinuated she was simply with Hunter because of his looming payday in the NFL (her posting photos of herself with her ring didn’t help her case), while others poked fun at her for seemingly not sharing the same level of excitement as his teammates and family.
But Lenee got some support from an unlikely source as Chicago Sky star Angel Reese weighed in on the situation on X.
“Leave that girl alone & let them be happy damn!” Reese wrote.
“I don’t know that boy at all,” she added in a separate tweet. “I’m just supporting another athlete but why do y’all care so much? AGAIN, they are happy. Y’all wanna be internet relationship experts so bad. This is why we want to keep things private cause y’all always gonna try to find SOMETHING.”
Reese’s remarks come less than 24 hours after she tweeted about getting emotional during Hunter’s Heisman win.
“Why am I crying 😭 I’m so happy for Travis man!!” Reese tweeted.
