In 2019, it was announced that Todd Phillips was set to direct the biopic of Hulk Hogan, with the Australian actor and “Thor” star portraying The Hulkster. But on the same day that a viral video emerged of Hogan making strange comments towards Vice President Kamala Harris, a surprising update was given on the planned biopic.
During an interview with Variety published on Wednesday morning, Phillips revealed that the Hogan Netflix biopic project has been canceled. The director of “Joker” and the upcoming sequel, “Joker: Folie à Deux”, said he would prefer to work on comedies.
“I love what we were trying to do, but that’s not going to come together for me,” Phillips said.
Hulk Hogan made headlines last month when he showed up at the 2024 2024 Republican National Convention to endorse Donald Trump. Hogan delivered a passionate speech and ripped off a shirt (his signature WWE move) to reveal a Trump and JD Vance 2024 shirt.
Hogan is also facing immense backlash now after TMZ shared a video of the WWE HAll of Famer asking fans if he should “body slam Kamala Harris” at a public event while in Medina, Ohio while promoting his new beer.
Hogan asked if he should deliver his signature Leg Drop finisher on Harris and if she’s a chameleon. The former world champion then acknowledged he’d be getting “heat” for that comment and quickly blamed the remark on the alcohol.
Harris is running against Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. She replaces the incumbent Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee, following the latter’s decision to not seek reelection.
Netflix Hits The Leg Drop On Hulk Hogan, Brother
Hogan is known for having an enormous ego (see the stories of him refusing to lose to Bret Hart, Jeff Jarett, Shawn Michaels, etc.), so one can only wonder how unhappy he is about the news of Netflix scrapping this biopic.
