Furious Michael Douglas played golf to distract from Trump – and got hole-in-one
Actor Michael Douglas had a creative way of keeping his mind off of Trump’s Election Day victory.

Actor Michael Douglas had to distract himself from Donald Trump’s Election Day victory this week – and it turns out he had a very successful time doing so.
The Oscar winner and loyal Democrat appeared on Bill Maher’s HBO talk show, Real Time with Bill Maher, on Friday to discuss his reactions to the 2024 presidential election.
He revealed he celebrated a hole-in-one on the golf course after being so distraught over Trump’s victory he had to play a round to “clear his mind.”
“The other thing I just have to share, after Tuesday night, Wednesday morning, [I’m] just so pissed at this razor-thin race,” he told Maher.
“It was gonna be so close, with all these polls … and it’s a wipeout. I had no idea how that could happen. So, I go down Wednesday morning to play golf just to clear my mind. I go play nine holes, and I get a hole-in-one.”

Referencing inflation and the death of the middle class, Douglas later said: “The very fact now that we can talk about Republicans as being the party for the people, and we are this elitist party on the left, Democrats, is wild.”
Douglas previously produced and appeared in this summer’s documentary America’s Burning, which explores the country’s economic divide.
After portraying Benjamin Franklin in this year’s Apple TV+ miniseries Franklin, Douglas also guessed how the Founding Father would have reacted to this year’s election. “Oh, I think he’d have another drink,” he said.
Douglas is a Democrat known to host fundraisers for the party at his home.
In July, he joined a wave of celebrities and politicos calling for Joe Biden to step aside from the presidential race following his disastrous debate with Trump.
He said he was “disappointed” at Biden’s doomed candidacy, a message he echoed this week opposite Maher as they discussed the presidential election.
“This is such a tough one,” he confessed to the panel. “I adore the guy, you know 50 years of public service, and this just happens to be one of the elections that’s so crucial.
“I don’t worry necessarily today or tomorrow but a year down the line…I worry. I am concerned.”
“I do want to mention George Clooney came out with an op-ed calling for Biden to step aside saying the stakes are too high for future generations,” she said, “What do you – would you like to respond to that?”
“I think it’s a valid point,” Michael conceded. “I’m deeply, deeply concerned. Especially it’s difficult because the Democrats have a deep bench, I mean they got a lot of heavy hitters. A lot of talent.”
Elsewhere in Maher’s episode, he sent a brutal message to Democrats who are taking Kamala Harris’ defeat on Election Day hard.
The HBO host claimed the Democratic Party is full of “brats and snobs” who need to “look in the mirror” after losing the election to Trump.
Maher, who predicted Harris would win, has always critisized both the Democrats and Republicans, something very few late night TV hosts do.
However, his message to Harris’ followers in his Friday monologue was harsh.
“My message to the losers: Losers look in the mirror! For months, Democrats have been saying how is this even close? And they’re right, it wasn’t,” he said.
He called the Democrat Party that has become representative of college educated elites and identity politics: “You’re brats, and you’re snobs, and people don’t like that.”
However, Maher promised that “we’re still gonna have fun!” and got on with a set of monologue jokes.
He continued: “We had an election… a lot of people are freaking. I opened the window today, the sun was still shining, the birds were still singing… my gardener was packing for Mexico.”
He then joked about the liberals who didn’t understand how Trump could win: “They could not conceive of a 2nd Trump term but they should’ve, when does America ever turn down seconds?”
