Montreal Canadiens’ head coach, Martin St-Louis, could potentially face a penalty from Gary Bettman and the NHL.
Why?
Simply because of a negative comment he made about the referees last night during his post-game press conference following the game against the New Jersey Devils.
Yes, it’s ridiculous to that extent.
I hope it won’t come to that, but technically, the NHL could fine MSL.
Martin St-Louis slightly criticizes the referees after the loss to the Devils
If you want my humble opinion, it’s completely ridiculous that head coaches aren’t allowed to critique the referees’ work.
As my colleague Keven Mawn aptly points out, it was a highly unusual move for MSL.
Here is one of his clearer, more direct statements:
«They didn’t help us tonight»
– Martin St-Louis, criticizing the referees’ work publicly.
There was a specific instance where David Savard was clearly held without any penalty being called, and the Devils scored just seconds later.
If Gary Bettman considers that the Canadiens’ head coach clearly criticized the referees’ work, Martin St-Louis could indeed be fined.
Yes, it’s absolutely ridiculous.
Let’s remember that the Habs lost once again last night, this time to the New Jersey Devils, with a score of 5-3. Forward Alex Newhook scored twice in the defeat (Brendan Gallagher scored the other)
The Montreal Canadiens’ next game is Saturday night against division rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs, who will be without their star player, Auston Matthews.
