Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s Second Collaboration Was Too “Experimental” for ‘F-1Trillion’

During his new interview with Holler, one of Post Malone’s go-to co-writers for his Nashville F-1Trillion sessions, Chandler Walters, has touched on Post’s mysterious second collaboration with Morgan Wallen, the title of which remains under wraps.

Post Malone Drops Country Single 'I Had Some Help' With Morgan Wallen

Walters, who helped pen Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s multi-week Billboard Hot 100 smash, ‘I Had Some Help’, delved into the creative process behind that uptempo earworm, before later mentioning the other collaboration the two artists recorded.

Chandler Walters, who co-wrote an array of stand-outs from Post Malone’s 2024 album, F-1Trillion, including ‘What Don’t Belong to Me‘, ’Losers’ and ’Who Needs You’, explained, “I was not a part of that song. I do remember the start of it, though, I do know the song. It is a great song. It was [too] experimental for the project, though”.

Earlier in December, Big Loud’s CEO, Seth England – who worked closely on the F-1Trillion rollout – recalled that in their first writing session together, Post Malone and Morgan Wallen penned seven songs. He revealed, “I’ve been friends with Tyler and [Post’s manager] Austin Rosen for a very long time now. When Post told his team he wanted to make country music, we were their first call…[I got a] text from the studio on night one saying they had just written nearly seven full songs”.

What’s interesting about Chandler Walters’ comments when viewed in light of what Seth England said recently, is that Walters was immediately aware as to which song was Post Malone’s ‘second’ Morgan Wallen collaboration. This implies that, although they may have written seven in total, there was one other track in particular, alongside ‘I Had Some Help’, that Post and Morgan decided to actually record.

With F-1Trillion serving as Post Malone’s first foray into the genre, it makes sense that the ‘Chemical’ hitmaker would want to steer clear of anything too ‘experimental’ or genre-blurring, so as to avoid any criticism from naysayers questioning his country chops.

Morgan Wallen, on the other hand, revels in the opportunity to explore the less-charted territory that exists in-between country, trap, Hip-Hop, indie and more, as was exemplified on his latest single, ’Love Somebody’, which infuses Latin-inspired textures.

With Morgan Wallen currently working on a new studio album that’s expected to arrive in 2025, perhaps he’s lining up this more ‘experimental’ duet with Post Malone for that project.

It was during an appearance on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast in September that Post Malone first referenced this second link-up with Morgan Wallen. Post gushed, “[Morgan’s] amazing…we wrote [‘I Had Some Help’] together. We cut another song too…I think I remember doing a verse, it was one of those long nights…!”

Tantalisingly, the ‘Sunflower’ singer-songwriter went on, “That song’s awesome too…I don’t know if [Morgan’s] gonna do anything with it, but I remember it being awesome. I was having a lot of fun. We were just all together, [Chandler] was there and [ERNEST], it was just killer. I love writing songs with my buddies”.

In his interview with Holler, Chandler Walters echoed Post Malone’s sentiments about crafting F-1Trillion, “Everything that came out of those sessions was really special, whether it ended up on the record or not. All those songs were amazing. Every writer was putting their best foot forward. It was an awesome thing to be a part of”.

We suspect – and hope – we might get to listen to this long-awaited ‘I Had Some Help’ follow-up when Morgan Wallen shares the tracklist for his new studio album. Regardless of when we get to hear this enigmatic second duet, following the immense success of ‘I Had Some Help’, we think it’s safe to say we can expect it to be pretty darn incredible – because, let’s face it, it’s Post Malone and Morgan Wallen.
