Aaron Rodgers couldn’t resist making a Mel Kiper Jr. joke after Thursday Night Football.
The New York Jets improved to 2-1 with a victory over the New England Patriots. Aaron Rodgers carved up the Patriots for 281 yards and two touchdowns.
Speaking to the media after the 24-3 win, Rodgers discussed how NFL teams are working hard to cover star wide receiver Garrett Wilson, which is why his numbers are down.
While doing so, Rodgers joked that it was “Kiper’s worst nightmare” since he was being covered with multiple safeties.
“The entire focus of all three defenses we’ve played have been taking Garrett away. It’s been Mel Kiper’s worst nightmare. Been a lot of cover two,” Rodgers said.
Wilson, a third-year receiver out of Ohio State, finished with five receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown.
The New York Jets star receiver is clearly one of the more talented receivers in the league, and it’s just a matter of time before things click between him and Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers Explained Why He Rejected Robert Saleh’s Hug During Thursday Night Football
Fans on social media sensed a bit of tension between New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Robert Saleh when cameras caught the four-time league MVP appearing to reject his coach’s embrace on the sideline in the first half of Thursday night’s win over the New England Patriots.
The two clarified the interaction during the postgame presser.
“Part of the things that we’ve been talking about is to just get the defense a two-score lead,” Saleh told reporters.
“And it was a two-score lead, so I guess he just wanted to see something on defense. He just reminded me that we got a two-score lead.”
“Oh, awkward? No, it wasn’t awkward at all,” Rodgers said.
“He’s not a big hugger usually. So, I didn’t know he was going for the hug. He likes to do the two-hand chest push as well. But he talks a lot about two-score leads. So I kind of just gave him a push and said ‘two-score lead.’ That’s what happened.”
