Aussie tennis star Nick Kyrgios has always moved to the beat of his own drum, and it appears he has some pretty out-there beliefs when it comes to some very well established facts about planet earth.
After two years off the ATP Tour because of injuries, Kyrgios is slated to finally return to professional tennis in December before another assault on the Australian Open.
The 29-year-old has ridden a rollercoaster throughout his career, with highs including reaching the Wimbledon final and winning the Australian Open doubles title.
However he has also endured lows including becoming the most fined player in tennis history because of his combustible nature and tendency to tank when things aren’t going his way.
Ahead of his dramatic Australian Open return, Kyrgios sat down to speak with popular British documentary maker Louis Theroux’s podcast about everything from his mental health to his high-profile battle with the bottle.
Kyrgios often has an alternative view to the mainstream on most things, so Theroux decided to test the Aussie star and find out his stance on some popular conspiracy theories – starting with the shape of the planet.
A rising number of conspiracy theorists think the Earth is flat because they doubt scientific findings.
They argue it looks flat based on everyday experiences and question photos and evidence of a round Earth, often because they don’t trust governments or scientists.
Science has plenty of proof against these ideas, but Kyrgios isn’t convinced.
‘I’d probably be inclined to saying it’s round, but I’m also not surprised if it was the other thing either. Maybe we need to have a beer and have this off-record,’ he joked.

The British journalist and documentary maker asked Kyrgios about popular conspiracy theories
The Aussie tennis star had some very curious answers to the questions Theroux asked
Next, Theroux asked the polarising tennis star if he believed the ancient Egyptians were capable of building the pyramids.
‘No, I don’t [think so]. Impossible,’ Kyrgios said.
‘That’s insanity. The fact that, how is that possible they [Egyptians] got every measurement correct, and they’re all aligned.
‘And “they did it with rolling large stones on logs” is an insane statement. Why are the doors so big?
‘Like, who needs to walk through the doors if they’re that big? I don’t know who it was.
‘I just don’t think that we were capable. It’s 2024, and we can’t even all get along. And you think that we built the pyramids? You’re insane. That’s insanity stuff.’
Kyrgios will return to the professional tennis circuit in December after a long hiatus through injury
Historic artifacts have shown the Egyptians ensured precise pyramid construction using tools like cubit rods for standard measurements and leveling instruments like plumb bobs [a precursor to the spirit level] and sighting tools for alignment.
The large doors allowed for the movement of materials but were also symbolic of the pharaoh’s power, creating a grand and visually impressive entrance to their tombs.
It didn’t stop there.
Another popular conspiracy theory is that the moon landing never happened and was instead filmed on a Hollywood sound stage.
It seems Kyrgios might be a believer in that one, too.
‘I have my thoughts on it,’ he said.
