The idea of seeing Elias Pettersson in the Montreal Canadiens uniform is really amazing, but it seems quite complicated for the Habs.

At 26 years old, Pettersson is a solid player with 440 points in 441 career games.

Imagine how he would transform the Habs offense.

The problem here: the price.

A journalist reveals the price to pay for Elias Pettersson

Elliotte Friedman says the Canucks want a good center for Pettersson or JT Miller.

For Kent Hughes, that would mean including Nick Suzuki in the trade, and we all know that the Habs won’t let him go.

Unless Kirby Dach and other additions could do the trick? It’s a possibility, but the Canucks are not in rebuild mode.

They want established players to continue fighting and lift the trophy.

Even though the Habs have plenty of good prospects and draft picks, it won’t be enough to go after a player like Pettersson.

Kent Hughes is not ready to sacrifice players like Suzuki to speed up the rebuild.

And with the New York Rangers seemingly in “we want big players mode,” it increases the chances that Pettersson or Miller ends up in New York.

One thing is certain: There will be movement in Vancouver soon.

Canadiens fans would really like to see the team make a move for a player like Pettersson, but unfortunately, it won’t happen.

Hughes likely will stay true to his plan and build for the long term with young players and draft picks.
