The Toronto Blue Jays are one among several teams that have shown interest in signing All-Star slugger Juan Soto. The Blue Jays were also one of the first teams to meet Soto and discuss his free agency. However, things did not pan out well.
The New York Yankees and the New York Mets remain top contenders. The Blue Jays are desperate to bolster their team’s starting lineup. Soto will be a huge boost to their offense. Yet, they need to offer him a huge contract that could outbeat three teams, including the Boston Red Sox.
According to Blue Jays journalist Ben Nicholson-Smith, their interest in signing Soto is real. The only issue is that they could be a ‘distant fourth’ behind the Yankees, Mets, and the Red Sox.
“Their interest is real and they have made an offer in the initial blind bidding, but sources describe them as a dark horse, at best. Industry-wide, the Mets are viewed as favorites and the Yankees are seen as a legitimate option to win the competition about to unfold,” Nicholson-Smith stated.

While their interest might be real, Toronto is unlikely to go all out for Soto. Toronto has plenty of work to do within its team. It must focus on extending its contracts with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette.
Toronto Blue Jays Might Have The Perfect Back-Up Plan If They Lose Juan Soto
The Blue Jays are not just active in pursuing Soto but seem to have a few sluggers on their list. Toronto might have the perfect backup play if they fail to close in on Soto. They are rumored to turn towards their former star, Teoscar Hernandez.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have yet to make an offer for Hernandez. Multiple teams are ready to pursue the World Series winner, and Toronto is one of them. Again, it’s up to the team to outbid their competitors in this race.
Hernandez has been a Blue Jay for close to five years. He has a personal connection with the team. Toronto could opt for a short-term deal with the star slugger, but the Dodgers are also believed to bring Hernandez back.
