A hire has just been confirmed within the Montreal Canadiens organization. He has been seen around the team for some time, but it has now been made official.
The Canadiens organization confirms and formalizes the hiring of Marc Bureau as a faceoff consultant.
He has notably provided valuable advice, on several occasions this season, to Nick Suzuki, Kirby Dach, Jake Evans, Christian Dvorak, Alex Newhook, and even Juraj Slafkovsky.
The Canadiens confirm the hiring of Marc Bureau
We strongly recommend reading the full text by Marc Antoine Godin on this subject:
And an excerpt:
“After providing advice to the team’s centermen a few times since early November, the Canadiens have formalized the hiring of former centerman Marc Bureau as a consultant.
The 58-year-old has signed a contract for the remainder of the season to assist both the Canadiens players and those of the Laval Rocket.”
Radio-Canada
This is the first time he has been hired by a National Hockey League organization.
It is well-deserved for him, and he will be a valuable asset for the centermen of the Canadiens (and the Rocket).
«It’s great to work with him,» commented Nick Suzuki. «We’ve never really had a faceoff coach who specializes in that. As a former player, he shows us that it’s primarily a mindset. It’s about treating every faceoff as if the end of the world depends on it, but once it’s over, you forget about it and focus on the next one. So, it’s very much about the approach.»
If the team’s effectiveness in the faceoff circle has improved significantly since the start of the season, it is certainly thanks in large part to Marc Bureau.
The contract is effective until the end of the season, but don’t be surprised if he is back next season as well.
