The name of the hour for the Montreal Canadiens is once again Jakub Dobes. Martin St-Louis’ squad is now just one point away from a playoff spot, thanks largely to the brilliance of the young goaltender.
We’re so happy to have him in Montreal, and his impact has been tremendous so far.
However, as journalist Stu Cowan mentions, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton must be watching this unfold with one small regret.
Imagine where the Canadiens would be today, in the NHL standings, if Jakub Dobes had been called up earlier
Whether it’s the games where Samuel Montembeault played completely exhausted or the games Cayden Primeau unfortunately lost due to disappointing performances, it seems evident the Canadiens would have a few more points in the standings if Dobes had been called up earlier.
But hey, the important thing is that he’s here now.
If he had been called up earlier, perhaps Martin St-Louis’ squad would already be in a playoff spot by now, but the season is still young.
As of today, the Montreal Canadiens have earned 39 points in 39 games, while the Ottawa Senators (the last team currently in a playoff spot) have earned 40 points in 38 games.
Last night, journalist Stu Cowan posted the following message twice:
Habs management must be wishing now that they had called up Jakub Dobes earlier this season.- Stu Cowan
And a second time:
I will say it again: Habs management must really wish they had called goalie Jakub Dobes up earlier this season.- Stu Cowan
Let’s just say his message is pretty clear, and it’s hard to disagree with it.
We’re looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this talented and promising young goaltender.
