Preston Claiborne in action for the Yankees

The Yankees announced the completion of manager Aaron Boone’s coaching staff for the 2025 season on Tuesday, featuring the addition of former Major League pitcher Preston Claiborne as an assistant pitching coach.

Yankees coaching staff maintains continuity for 2025 season

Claiborne, 37, steps into the position left vacant by Desi Druschel, who joined the Mets in the same capacity in December. Claiborne brings substantial coaching experience from within the Yankees’ organization, where he spent the past four years honing pitchers across various levels. He served as pitching coach for Single-A Tampa in 2024, High-A Hudson Valley in 2023, and the Rookie-level Florida Complex League Yankees from 2021 to 2022.

A former Yankee himself, Claiborne appeared in 62 games as a reliever during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, compiling a 3-2 record with a 3.79 ERA. He also had a brief stint with the Texas Rangers in 2017. Claiborne’s shift from player to coach highlights his comprehensive understanding of the game and dedication to fostering young talent.

The remainder of the Yankees’ coaching staff remains consistent from 2024, with all key personnel returning. Brad Ausmus will continue as bench coach, alongside Matt Blake as pitching coach and Mike Harkey as bullpen coach. On the offensive side, James Rowson remains hitting coach, supported by assistant hitting coaches Casey Dykes and Pat Roessler.

Luis Rojas will stay on as the third base and outfield coach, while Travis Chapman continues as first base coach and director of infield instruction. Tanner Swanson resumes his role as Major League field coordinator and director of catching, ensuring the team’s player development maintains its high standards.

Claiborne’s promotion injects a fresh perspective into the Yankees’ coaching staff while preserving stability in critical roles. His dual experience as a former Major League player and an accomplished organizational coach makes him an asset to the pitching staff. Both fans and analysts will be watching closely to gauge his impact on the team’s performance in 2025.

The announcement underscores the Yankees’ readiness to embark on the 2025 campaign with a well-rounded and cohesive staff. By blending continuity with new insights, Boone’s coaching team appears well-prepared to address the challenges of the upcoming season as the Yankees aim to reclaim championship glory.
