Logan Mailloux turned heads early in the season with the Laval Rocket thanks to an impressive offensive production. With nine points in four games, he seemed destined to dominate, but his numbers have since dropped.
We’re now talking about only six points in fourteen games.
However, this drop in production is not concerning; rather, it reflects a thoughtful strategy by head coach Pascal Vincent.
Asked about removing Mailloux from the power play, Vincent highlighted a clear objective: preparing the young defenseman to excel in a 200-foot role.
Pascal Vincent has a plan for Logan Mailloux and is going to shake things up
Here’s what he had to say:
«The power play is not what’s going to get him to the NHL.
We want him to become a player coaches can trust all over the ice,» he explained.
Additionally, he revealed that he’s soon going to adjust his line combinations, possibly to reset things and restore responsibilities for Logan Mailloux.
This approach focuses on developing his defensive reliability and ability to play effectively in all situations.
Although Mailloux has lost his power play role to Noel Hoefenmayer, it allows him to concentrate on critical aspects of his game.
He’s following a path similar to Cole Caufield, who experienced a temporary dip in production before becoming a more complete player.
The Canadiens’ organization seems to have high hopes for Mailloux, envisioning him as a pillar of Montreal’s defense.
His current progress, though modest in statistical terms, reflects a deep effort to maximize his long-term potential. Fans should therefore be patient and optimistic during this transition.
With adjusted performances and a clear vision for his future role, Logan Mailloux could well become one of the most reliable and versatile defensemen for the Canadiens in the years to come.
