The Green Bay Packers are going to need to make bold moves at wide receiver this offseason.
That much became painfully evident as quarterback Jordan Love struggled to build on his stellar 2023 campaign, and Green Bay’s issues at receiver became evident as injuries began to mount down the stretch and during the Packers’ NFC Wild Card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Given that Christian Watson suffered a torn ACL in Week 18, and his 2025 season is very much in doubt, the Packers could go shopping at the very top of the free-agent market.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins makes a lot of sense as a top target for Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst, but he’s far from the only marquee wide receiver Green Bay should pursue, as it looks to build around the likes of Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks in Love’s supporting cast.
Could the Packers Sign Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown?
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, could be a prime Packers target, especially if the veteran receiver settles for some sort of one-year “prove-it” deal after being sidelined for much of this season.
Acme Packing Company’s Justis Mosqueda put together a list of potential Packers targets, including Brown.
“Marquise Brown’s situation is very interesting,” Mosqueda writes. “After three years in Baltimore, Brown was traded to the Arizona Cardinals for a first-round pick. In two years there, he only managed to record 118 receptions for 1,283 yards and seven touchdowns. He was supposed to try to play through a “prove it year” deal with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024, but he injured his collar bone, limiting him to just two regular season games played this past year. He is the field-stretching type of receiver that the Packers would be looking at to replace Christian Watson’s snaps, as Watson will be out at least three-quarters of next regular season with his ACL injury.”
Brown would certainly fill the need of a big-play threat in the Packers’ receiving corps, after catching 322 passes through his first six seasons for 3,735 yards and 28 touchdowns. He’d also fill a void of a top-of-the-depth-chart veteran presence in an otherwise young and ascending receiving corps.
Regardless of who the Packers ultimately wind up signing, expect Green Bay to be aggressive at the position later this spring.
