Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst seems open to keeping Brandon McManus as the team’s placekicker for at least another year.
During his media availability on Thursday, Gutekunst praised the one-time Super Bowl champion for bringing stability to their special teams unit in 2024.
“I had a good conversation with him before he left and obviously, you guys saw how he solidified that journey we were going on. He’s a veteran guy. The thing that was so neat about being around him was not only his confidence, but his ability to adjust,” Gutekunst said about McManus via Dominique Yates of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
“No matter where we were, what weather we had. Our specialist group with Matt (Orzech) and Daniel (Whelan), if we were able to get Brandon back, I think certainly, that would make me feel very good about that group,” he concluded.
Brandon McManus in his first season with the Green Bay Packers
McManus joined the Packers on a one-year, $1.2 million contract last October, and it proved to be a huge bargain.
In the 11 games he played, the 33-year-old kicker converted all 30 extra point attempts and went 20-of-21 in his field goal attempts, including two game-winning kicks.
Throughout his NFL career, McManus has converted 273 of his 332 field goal attempts (82.2 percent) and 342 of his 351 extra-point attempts (97.4 percent).
