Alexander is coming off back-to-back lackluster campaigns in Green Bay, as he missed 10 regular season matches in the past two years, including the final seven games of the 2024 regular season.
The 27-year-old cornerback has dealt with injuries to his shoulder, back, groin, and knee since the 2021 campaign. Alexander still has two years left on his contract, but his cap number will rise to roughly $25 million in 2025, and the Green Bay Packers could save some money if they cut ties with him.
Brian Gutekunst on the “disconnect” between the Green Bay Packers and Jaire Alexander
Gutekunst seemed sympathetic toward Alexander’s situation, and the 51-year-old executive dismissed any idea there is a disconnect between the team and its star cornerback.
“No disconnect,” Gutekunst said via Dominique Yates of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “There’s frustration from both sides that he can’t get out there. That’s tough, and I feel for him. He wants to be out there. He wants to play. We certainly can (keep Alexander). We’re at the beginning stages of gathering information, as a whole, before we start looking at next year. We could. When he’s healthy and ready to play, he’s a pretty good player.”
