After his team’s embarrassing performance against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night, Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis was active today.
He held a regular practice, not a punitive one, but he was clearly on edge, and understandably so.
As reported by the excellent Marc-Olivier Cook, Martin had to abruptly stop drills several times to «get in his players’ ears.»
Here’s an example:
This is far from the first time MSL has stopped a drill to talk to his guys this morning.
And let’s just say the coach doesn’t seem very satisfied with what he’s seeing..
Personally, I like seeing this.
Many criticized Martin St-Louis for his lack of emotion during the press conference immediately after last night’s game, but he clearly showed it this morning.
Martin St-Louis Acts More, Talks Less
We’re beginning to see that MSL isn’t a coach who puts on a show in front of journalists or yells during press conferences. Instead, he takes action the following day at practice to address the issues.
It’s really a shame because before Thursday night’s disaster at the Bell Centre, the «vibes» around the Montreal Canadiens were excellent, and it really felt like the team was heading in the right direction.
In just one game, everything changed.
It must be said that the unexpected absence of David Savard seemed to have a significant impact, leading some to outright claim that a Montreal Canadiens trade may have fallen through due to last night’s game against Pittsburgh.
In any case, we’re eager to see how Martin St-Louis’ squad responds in their next game against the Jets, but it must be better than what we saw on Thursday at the Bell Centre.
