Juan Soto has dismissed rumors suggesting he left the New York Yankees because the team mistreated his family during his time in the Bronx.
“That’s a lie,” Soto said emphatically when asked about the claims.
Rumors spark controversy

The rumors began on December 9 when Jon Heyman of the New York Post appeared on MLB Network. Heyman claimed Soto had “negative feelings” about an incident earlier in the 2024 season. According to Heyman, a Yankees security guard removed one of Soto’s parents from a restricted area at Yankee Stadium in April or May. Later in the season, the same guard allegedly forced Soto’s driver and chef to wait outside the stadium in the rain.
Heyman also said he spoke with Juan Soto after the Yankees lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games. “Soto is a family guy. He was not too happy at the time,” Heyman remarked.
The report fueled speculation that these incidents were a factor in Soto’s decision to leave the Yankees. The 26-year-old opted to sign a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract with the New York Mets, rejecting the Yankees’ 16-year, $760 million offer. ESPN’s Jeff Passan later reported that Soto’s deal with the Mets includes escalators that could push its total value beyond $800 million.

Despite the rumors, Juan Soto defended the Yankees and expressed appreciation for his experience with the team. “My experiences with the team were great,” he said. “They are a 1A organization.”
Juan Soto’s comments aimed to dispel growing speculation among Yankees fans, who felt betrayed by his departure. In 2024, Soto’s contributions were pivotal to the Bronx Bombers’ first World Series appearance in 15 years. He hit 41 home runs during the season and quickly became a fan favorite.
However, the Mets’ aggressive offer and long-term vision ultimately secured his move to Queens. The blockbuster signing has left Yankees fans frustrated, with some pointing fingers at both the organization and Juan Soto.
A-Rod weighs in
Former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez appeared to allude to Juan Soto’s departure in a recent Instagram post. Without naming Soto, Rodriguez emphasized the importance of unity in a team’s success. “You can’t win with a divided team. I’d rather have a good team that’s committed than a great team full of egos,” he wrote.
Rodriguez also took a swipe at the Mets, implying that a cohesive group is the key to sustained success. “Take a good team, add commitment and diversity, and you have a great team,” A-Rod added, possibly referencing the challenge of integrating high-profile stars like Soto into a cohesive unit.
Juan Soto’s departure has sparked a larger conversation about the Yankees’ recent struggles to retain top-tier talent. Once the undisputed destination for baseball’s biggest stars, the Bronx Bombers have missed out on several marquee players in recent years, fueling doubts about their ability to reclaim their dominance.
Meanwhile, the Mets are poised for a new era of success with Juan Soto leading the charge. Team owner Steve Cohen has shown no hesitation in spending to build a powerhouse in Queens, and Soto’s addition signals the franchise’s intent to compete for championships for years to come.
While rumors continue to swirl, Juan Soto’s comments make one thing clear: he holds no ill will toward the Yankees. As he begins his journey with the Mets, Soto looks to leave the drama behind and focus on his next chapter. Whether his departure will have lasting repercussions for the Yankees remains to be seen, but for now, both teams are charting their paths in dramatically different directions.
