The young Montreal Canadiens goaltender, Jakub Dobes, will already be fined by Gary Bettman and the NHL.
As you probably already know, rookies in the NHL who take their traditional rookie lap without a helmet during their first career game are immediately sanctioned by the NHL.
A fine for Jakub Dobes
That’s exactly what the goaltender did, and he did it very well, by the way.
See the footage:
Dobes will therefore be sanctioned and will receive a fine.
However, what’s really peculiar is that the NHL itself just made an official post promoting Dobes’ rookie lap (without a helmet).
“Despite the fact that the NHL’s social media accounts publish posts about Jakub Dobes..
Gary Bettman still imposes a $2,500 fine on all rookies who take their traditional solo rookie lap without a helmet during warmups.”

So, they make an official post to promote an action they’re going to sanction? Let’s just say it’s highly contradictory, but hey, we’re so happy for Dobes who was able to shutout the defending champs in his NHL debut.
Dobes, 23 years old, has a record of 9-3-1 this season in Laval, with a goals-against average of 2.44 and a save percentage of .910.
And in the NHL, let’s just say he has started his journey with the Canadiens very well, leaving a great first impression on Martin St-Louis.
This is a wonderful belated Christmas gift for Jakub Dobes.
