During a press conference last night, after the solid win against the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans gave a response that was anticipated.
A response that is, moreover, worrying for those, like me, who hope Evans stays in Montreal for several more years.
We know this will be one of, if not the biggest, files on Kent Hughes’ desk leading up to the trade deadline.
Will he trade Jake Evans for a high price?
Or will he offer him a nice and fairly lucrative contract extension?
It’s an interesting dilemma for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.
Jake Evans gives a telling response
Believe it or not, the trade deadline is approaching quickly, and Evans just gave a disappointing response.
It’s very rare to see a player answer a question about contract negotiations, but Evans clearly wanted to be transparent with the fans, and he did.
His response? Crickets..
«Still just crickets..» said Jake Evans when we asked him about contract negotiations.
Hopefully, that will change soon, but for now, it’s radio silence, and the situation is at a complete standstill.
If there are no contract negotiations within a few weeks, expect Jake Evans to be traded, unfortunately.
This is a situation to keep an eye on.
Evans is having a fantastic season just before signing his next contract, and he’s becoming a very important player for the Montreal Canadiens.
Jake Evans, aged 28, has 19 points in 33 games this season, including 19 goals, and is currently earning $1.7 million per year.
What would you do if it were your decision?
