Juan Soto’s free agency started at around $600 million, with a number of teams behind the star slugger. With a little more than a month into the offseason, his price has already been predicted to be $750 million. The New York Mets and their crosstown rivals remain the frontrunners for the team.
Other contenders like the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox are remaining in the race. On the other hand, Soto’s agent, Scott Boras, is playing the tough bargain game. After all the rumors and drama, the All-Star slugger is now predicted to surpass the great Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani signed the biggest deal in the history of major league baseball. Soto’s demand is growing as teams are literally fighting to sign him. Yet, some MLB fans believe that $750 million is way over the top, even for Juan Soto.
Here’s a look at some of the fan reactions on X.
“I love Juan. But this is ridiculous, lol,” wrote one fan.
“Good player but not worth more than Ohtani who is a Generational Player thats my Take if its more than 700,” one fan responded.
“Been a Yankee fan for over 50 years and i absolutely think Soto is a beast but I’m sorry, no way on gods green earth am I giving one player 3/4 of a billion dollars. No way Hal would ever do that and I would not blame him one bit,” replied one fan.
“I find it very difficult to believe that Soto would get a contract worth more than Ohtani’s. He’s just a elite batter and Ohtani is an elite batter and elite pitcher. Soto is worth the same as Mookie ngl. Soto is still T5 in batting don’t get me wrong, but over $600 Million? Nah,” another fan chipped in.
Five Teams Continue The Hot Pursuit For Juan Soto
Despite both New York teams being favorites to sign Juan Soto, it’s hard to leave out the rest. According to experts, five teams continue the hot pursuit for Soto. This includes the Boston Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Dodgers are still a favorite to sign Soto. With the bidding going higher each day, Soto might just sign the biggest contract in baseball. At present, Soto is predicted to sign a long-term deal that could be close to 14 or 15 years.
Steve Cohen and the Mets are not going to give up easily. Furthermore, the Yankees are fighting to bring back Soto in the Bronx. Soto is expected to come to a decision soon as his free agency nears.
