I can’t help but smile when someone like Simon Snake Boisvert finally admits they were wrong. He often doubted Lane Hutson could become an elite NHL defenseman because of his size.
However, he has just changed his mind.
According to him, Hutson is now comparable to players like Quinn Hughes and Phil Housley.
He’s convinced that Hutson could be the best offensive defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens since P.K. Subban.
What he said really struck me, Hutson could eventually produce at a point per game pace, and become an 80 points player in the near future.
That’s no small feat!
A Draft Steal Pulled Off by Kent Hughes with Lane Hutson
Boisvert even went further, saying that if the 2022 draft were redone, Hutson would be a top-2 pick.
It’s incredible to think that the Canadiens drafted him 62nd overall.
In his view, Logan Cooley would be the other player in this top 2, not Juraj Slafkovsky.
I think it’s great that he’s acknowledging his mistake and explaining why he underestimated Hutson.
Few analysts show that kind of humility.
In any case, if Hutson continues to progress, he could truly become a cornerstone for the Canadiens.
He’s the kind of draft steal that can genuinely change the trajectory of a rebuild, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing right now with Martin St-Louis’ team, which is turning the corner in this rebuild much earlier than expected.
Hutson, 20, has an impressive 39 points in 47 games. He is currently riding a 9-game point streak, breaking a Canadiens record he previously set himself.
