Tim Allen is returning to his sitcom roots with upcoming ABCĀ comedyĀ Shifting Gears.
He’ll be playing Matt, described as the “stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop,ā per the official logline.
American PieĀ hunk SeannĀ WilliamĀ Scott is the latest cast addition.
Seann, 48, has signed on to portray Gabriel, aĀ familyĀ friend of Matt who works in the shop with him.
Gabriel replaces Nick (Froy Gutierrez), Matt’s son, who appeared in the pilot but will not be part of the series.
Previously, Seann starred as “Steve Stifler” in the American Pie franchise, spanning 1999 to 2012.
His other films include Road Trip, Dude Where’s My Car?, the Ice Age series and two Goon movies.
Shifting Gears marks only Seann’s third regular TV role in his almost 30-year career.
Lead actor Tim played Tim “Tool Man” Taylor on ABC’sĀ Home ImprovementĀ for eight seasons.
His later sitcom Last Man Standing ran for nine seasons altogether.
Tim’s iconicĀ filmĀ parts include Scott Calvin/Santa Claus in The Santa Clause series and Buzz Lightyear in theĀ Toy StoryĀ franchise.
Another classic, Galaxy Quest, saw him co-star with Shifting Gears castmate Daryl “Chill” Mitchell”.
From 2022, he reprised the role of Scott Calvin/Santa Claus in Disney+ series The Santa Clauses.
Rounding out the core cast, 2 Broke Girls’ alum Kat Jennings is playing Riley, Matt’s daughter.
The 38-year-old also appeared as Darcy Lewis in theĀ MarvelĀ Cinematic Universe, primarily in the Thor films.
She also played Darcy in the popular Disney+ seriesĀ WandaVision.
Shifting Gears will air on ABC.
