LeBron James recently gave a rare insight into his retirement plans by openly acknowledging that he may be nearing the end of his NBA career. Lakers superstar achieved a triple-double for the third straight game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
The 39-year-old star admitted that he might only be in the NBA for “one or two years.” Even if he doesn’t appear to be slowing down, James has been thinking more and more about the unavoidable conclusion of his career.
LeBron stated, “It’s not me obviously it’s the mind Whatever my mind is how my the rest of my body’s gonna go whatever the case may be. I don’t know. I’m not gonna play that much longer, if I’m gonna be honest. If it’s 1 year, 2 years, whatever the case may be. I’m not playing until the wheels fall off. I’m not gonna be the guy that’s disrespecting the game.”
However, it appears from his recent remarks that he is aware of how he wants to leave the game on his terms while still doing well, even if he can still produce at a high level. James’s comments follow a summer of conjecture when he initially alluded to retiring following the Lakers’ 2023 playoff elimination. These thoughts about the last years of his career have persisted, even though he eventually decided to go back.
LeBron James Gets Real On His Third Consecutive Triple-Double
After the Lakers defeated the Grizzlies 128-123, LeBron James spoke about his impressive run of play. James said he took matters one game at a time while recording his third consecutive triple-double in his past three games. However, he did express thanks for the opportunity to play at a high level and assist his team in winning games.
LeBron said, “I’m just living in the moment. It feels good to be able to go out and play the game I love at a high level, still. Every night I step on the floor, I try to help our team be successful in any form or fashion. In that sense, it’s pretty cool.”
LeBron James had an outstanding game with 35 points (13–22 FG), 12 rebounds, 14 assists, and one steal against the Grizzlies Friday night. It was an incredible performance from a player still playing at his best level even though he is in his 22nd season. When the king had another outstanding performance, the fans were overjoyed to see him continue his fantastic run.
