Fans can hardly be blamed for thinking that the NFL is an unserious organization, given some of its ridiculous rules. One such regulation came into play during the Minnesota Vikings’ win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Former referee Mike Pereira had to step in to explain after something that seemed straightforward turned out to be anything but that.

Vikings receiver Jordan Addison caught a 69-yard pass early in the third quarter and cut it close as he appeared to have ventured out of bounds while adding yards after the catch.

Chicago head coach Matt Eberflus was sure Addison got at least a toe out and challenged the play. However, as Pereira explained, the officials wouldn’t have been able to overturn the ruling on the field because a coach’s challenge wouldn’t have gone through.

The play would have had to stand even if the boundary camera had shown the WR stepping out of bounds. Apparently, coaches can’t challenge once the boundary cam is required, as not every stadium has one, making it unfair to other teams.

It would have only been admissible on a scoring play.

Fans Were Left Scratching Their Heads After Being Brought Up To Speed On The Rule That Would Have Allowed The Minnesota Vikings To Get Away With A Blatant Violation

This has to be one of the silliest rules in the book, considering how simple it should be to make boundary cam angles available in every stadium.

“Right but like… WHY aren’t they in every stadium,” a comment read.

“A.  That is so stupid.  B. The NFL can’t afford it?” someone wrote.

“Multi billion dollar revenue generating league can’t afford a few more cameras,” another added.

“Some stadiums have roofs… but it’s not an issue of equity with good weather,” a user pointed out.

Trust the NFL to have everyone scratching their heads over something like this…
