Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is having another excellent season in Boulder and looks poised to become a top-five pick in April’s 2025 NFL Draft.
Proving 2023 was no fluke, Shedeur Sanders is faring even better than last year. He comes into Saturday’s game against Utah with a 72.9 completion percentage for 2,882 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, six interceptions and four rushing scores.
Sanders headlines a deep group of quarterbacks for the 2025 draft class that includes Georgia’s Carson Beck, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, Miami’s Cameron Ward and Texas’ Quinn Ewers. His father and Buffs head coach, Deion Sanders, has made it no secret that he’ll try and influence where Shedeur lands.
Coach Prime was a guest on FOX Sports’ “SPEAK” program. There, the two-time Super Bowl champion was asked what he’ll want from the team that drafts his son:
“Somebody that can handle the quarterback that (Shedeur) is. Somebody that can handle understanding what he’s capable of. Someone that has had success in the past handling quarterbacks or someone in an organization [who] understands what they’re doing, not just throwing you out there amongst the wolves.”
Deion was also asked if he’d “step in” if the “wrong” team drafted his son. The Pro Football Hall of Famer gave an affirmative but said he would do so “privately.”
It’s hard to project where exactly Shedeur Sanders may land because 11 NFL teams are 3-6 or worse heading into this week’s slate of games. There’s no clear-cut front-runner to finish with the No. 1 pick, and even then, the lucky owners might be a non-QB-needy team like the Jacksonville Jaguars, Dallas Cowboys or Miami Dolphins.
Realistic NFL Landing Spots For Shedeur Sanders
Looking at the bottom feeders around the NFL without a suitable quarterback option, a handful of teams stand out as the most logical landing spots for Sanders.
The Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans will likely be in the market for a new QB. The Cleveland Browns, too, if they use logic and give up on the Deshaun Watson experiment.
A team like the New Orleans Saints or New York Jets could also draft Sanders and have him learn behind their veteran QB for a year or two before handing him the keys.
