The Brooklyn Nets had an unremarkable start to the season, losing three out of their first four games. Meanwhile, forward Ben Simmons is not living up to fans’ expectations. His performances have been disappointing, as he often hesitates to take simple layups.
During a recent game against the Milwaukee Bucks, Simons stole the ball from Damian Lillard and had a clear path to the rim. Despite only facing Brook Lopez as the defender from the Bucks, the 28-year-old opted not to take the easy layup and instead passed the ball to Cam Johnson.
Simmons’ performance disappointed many fans and broadcasters. The Nets broadcast absolutely criticized Simmons for being too scared to take a layup. The Nets broadcasters said, “I mean his reluctance to go to the rim; it’s staggering to watch on plays like that.”
Simmons scored just two points, six assists, and six rebounds in the Nets’ 115-102 victory against the Bucks. The Nets forward has experienced multiple injuries since joining the team on February 10, 2022. Recently, during the season opener against the Atlanta Hawks, Simmons was seen with a bloody wrist during the first half of the game.
Simmons Shares Insights On His Back Injury And Recovery Journey
During the 2023-24 NBA season, Simmons suffered a nerve impingement in his back. As a result of this injury, the Nets forward only participated in 15 games. On March 15, he underwent a microscopic partial discectomy to treat the issue. Recently, Simmons reflected on his back injury and the recovery process he experienced.
“I’d have days where I’d have a tough day of playing. The next day I’d be locked up in my back. I haven’t had one of those setbacks since I’ve been back playing (over the summer).” Simmons said in a recent interview with Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
Fans are increasingly frustrated, expecting Simmons to perform better in the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season.
