We just had an unexpected development live from the Bell Centre for the Montreal Canadiens.

Veteran David Savard did not take to the ice for the warm-up session.

Jayden Struble, however, is on the ice in preparation for the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

David Savard absent: awaiting an official announcement from the Canadiens

Savard participated in recent practices, including this morning’s session, and everything seemed perfectly normal!

He even spoke with journalists this morning, so something clearly happened between then and tonight.

Update: The Canadiens have just announced an upper-body injury for Savard

The Canadiens announce that David Savard will not play tonight due to an upper-body injury. Jayden Struble returns to the lineup against Columbus.

We spoke to David Savard this morning, but he’s not on the ice for the warm-up. Bothered by an upper-body injury, he won’t face the Blue Jackets. Jayden Struble, who was originally set to sit out, will replace him.

As Renaud Lavoie just mentioned on TVA Sports, Savard’s absence is a surprise to everyone. Let’s just hope to see him back soon.

David Savard, 34, has accumulated four points in 17 games this season, with a -5 rating and four penalty minutes. Recently, insider Dennis Bernstein revealed that the Habs could secure a high return in a trade involving David Savard.

Details to follow.
