The Washington Capitals organization has just announced bad news regarding their star forward, Alex Ovechkin.
The Great 8 was riding high and seemed on track to break Wayne Gretzky’s famous record as early as this year, he is now injured.
An injury at the worst time for Alex Ovechkin
Ovechkin will have to miss several weeks of action, according to multiple sources, as the Capitals have also confirmed the news.
It’s a leg injury for Ovechkin, sustained due to a knee-on-knee collision with Utah hockey forward Jack McBain.
It’s unlikely we’ll see Ovechkin back in uniform in 2024, barring a surprise.
The pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s record will have to be put on hold for several weeks for Alexander Ovechkin.
At the time of writing, Ovechkin is the NHL’s leading scorer, with 15 goals in 18 games this season, despite being 39 years old.
It’s truly incredible.
I think Gretzky’s record might survive another season due to this injury, but it seems inevitable for Ovechkin to become the top scorer in NHL history as early as next season.
He currently stands at 868 goals in 1,444 career games, while Gretzky’s record is 894 goals in 1,487 games.
This will be a story to watch, and we’ll definitely keep you updated on developments for the Washington Capitals forward.
More details to come.
