Rumors linking Trevor Zegras to the Montreal Canadiens have been circulating on social media for quite some time.

They died down when Kent Hughes acquired Patrik Laine, but this Monday, David Ettedgui has brought the speculation back into the spotlight.

The Perfect Time to Acquire Trevor Zegras?

Indeed, the former player agent believes this is the perfect time for Kent Hughes to contact his counterpart, Pat Verbeek, to inquire about the price for his 23-year-old forward. With gaps in the offense and injuries (especially Laine’s), Montreal may need some help.

In a Facebook post, Ettedgui further clarified his point. According to him, even though the Canadiens should prioritize a right-handed defenseman, they should also consider Zegras’s situation. His value is at its lowest due to a challenging start to the season, and Montreal should take advantage of that.

If the Canadiens pass on Cole Caufield’s friend, they should look towards the Nashville Predators.

«It’s the best time for the Canadiens to go after Trevor Zegras; this is the moment. He needs a change, and the Canadiens are the perfect team to revive him. With the uncertainty in the offense, the inconsistent performances of some forwards, and Laine’s injury, I would add him to balance out the two forward lines. Otherwise, keep an eye on Nashville in this situation. I know the Canadiens’ priority is a #3 or #4 right-handed defenseman, but 23-year-old talents like Zegras at a low price come around very rarely.»

As we mentioned recently, Zegras has been declining season after season. His average went from 67 points in his 2nd and 3rd years in the league to a meager average of 23 points last year.

Just imagine if Martin St-Louis managed to revive the young American. Sometimes, all it takes is a change of scenery to get a player back on track!

In any case, much like Patrik Laine, Zegras is a young player brimming with talent who just seems to need a fresh start with a dynamic young team.
