We just got some surprising news about Montreal Canadiens forward Cole Caufield.

It’s completely ridiculous, and I’d even go as far as to say it’s downright unfair.

According to a report from the reputable Pierre LeBrun, Caufield has reportedly been excluded from Team USA’s plans for the prestigious Four Nations Tournament.

Team USA’s final roster won’t be submitted for another two weeks, so things could still change by then, but as of now, this seems to be the decision.

You can imagine the negative reactions pouring in right now, and not just in Montreal.

Why was he excluded? That’s an excellent question.

Cole Caufield Reportedly Not Even in Team USA’s Plans

Let’s remember we’re talking about a player who’s scored 12 goals in 16 games this season for the Montreal Canadiens.

«In fact, it’s worse: according to Pierre LeBrun on TSN’s Insider Trading segment, Caufield is currently not in the American officials’ plans at all.»

– Marc-Olivier Cook

So, Caufield is sidelined by Team USA, barring a major change in circumstances.

We’re not saying he won’t make the lineup (among the 12 chosen forwards).. we’re saying he isn’t even on the list of considered candidates.

That’s even worse.

Do you think this is a mistake?

At 23, Caufield wouldn’t get the chance to join his friends Brady Tkachuk and Quinn Hughes on the American national team.

He’ll likely be asked about this by reporters, and he’ll probably give a neutral answer, but this has to be affecting him.

What a ridiculous decision.
