The Atlanta Hawks have been fined $100,000 by the NBA for violating the league’s player participation policy by holding star guard Trae Young out of the team’s first game in the NBA Cup despite him being healthy enough to play.
It turns out that held him out of the game for a good reason.
Young missed Atlanta’s NBA Cup matchup against the Boston Celtics on November 12th, a game that actually still won. The team cited that, at the time, he had right Achilles tendinitis.
The Hawks went on to earn a 117-116 win over the Celtics at Boston’s TD Garden.
A league statement says the investigation found that Trae Young could have played under the policy’s medical standard as they consulted with an independent physician, per the statement.
Fans would become enraged over the entire situation after they figured out that Trae Young was likely out so he could celebrate the 1st birthday of his child.
Here are just a few responses from fans who hated everything about the situation involving Trae Young:
“FUCK ADAM SILVER,” one irate fan said.
“This isn’t the way to fix this issue. Make games meaningful, and impactful. Get rid of back-to-backs,” another fan stated about the Trae Young situation.
“Soft ass league,” a fan stated about the NBA fining the league over Trae Young being there for his child.
Young currently leads the Hawks in points (21.9) and assists (11.9).
Trae Young Announced Birth of Daughter Teal Dove Young In 2023
The NBA fined the Atlanta Hawks $100,000 for “violating the league’s Player Participation Policy in connection with Trae Young missing the team’s Emirates NBA Cup game on Nov. 12 against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden,” the league announced.
Young was listed out for that Celtics game with right Achilles tendinitis, but a league investigation found that he could’ve played.
It turns out that his departure had more to do with his child’s birthday.
Young announced the birth of his daughter, Teal Dove Young, in an Instagram photo in November 2023.
