Social Media Calls Luka Doncic “Poor Defender” After Dallas Mavericks Star’s Late Error Leads To Utah Jazz’s Game-Winner

After having a decent start in the 2024-25 season, last season’s NBA Finalists, the Dallas Mavericks, have now lost four games in a row. The Mavericks acquired former Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson to boost their offensive performance. However, their defensive performance cost them the game against the Utah Jazz on Thursday, and the fans lashed out at Luka Doncic on social media.

In the fourth quarter, Klay Thompson scored a clutch three-pointer to tie the game at 113-113. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the game, Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson assisted John Collins’ 28th point. Luka Doncic, who appears to be looking at the bench, was on the free-throw line when Collins scored the game-winner. Fans left furious with Doncic’s lack of awareness and trolled him on social media.

While Doncic looked in disbelief after the Jazz took a two-point lead, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd reacted to the play in a post-game interview. “Communication. There was a lapse there,” Jason Kidd said. “It happens, and they took full advantage of it. We gotta be better.”

Luka Doncic Takes Responsibility For The Mavs Loss

The Slovenian guard registered 37 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds in the loss against the Jazz. In a post-game interview, he took the blame for the loss after he was caught sleeping during Utah’s game-winner.

“I was misunderstanding…we misunderstood the bench. That’s on me,” Luka Doncic said.

In the 2024-25 NBA season, Doncic is leading the Mavericks in three categories with an average of 29.2 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. However, the Dallas Mavericks have managed the 12th spot in the West with a 5-7 record. Last season’s scoring leader’s defensive woes would be a major concern for the Mavs going forward.
