Joel Embiid brought the Philadelphia 76ers under investigation once again following a physical altercation with a reporter in the locker room.
Joel Embiid assaults reporter
Every time you think the Philadelphia 76ers’ season can’t get any worse, it somehow does. The 76ers have yet to see their franchise star Joel Embiid step on the court as he continues to rehab from a knee injury. Things took a turn for the worse on Saturday night after a physical altercation took place between Embiid and a media member.
The news broke after Sixers writer Keith Pompey and ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Embiid had assaulted a reporter in the locker room. As news spread, the NBA issued a statement about the situation. The league clarified that they would be investigating the matter.
The league investigation will determine the immediate cause of the conflict between Embiid and the columnist. If Embiid is found to have violated league policies surrounding the media, the Sixers and Embiid could be in for a world of trouble.
The 76ers Star has already been on injury reserve to start the season. A possible suspension by the league could further delay the return of Embiid to the Sixers. The altercation between Embiid and the columnist is reportedly set to have stemmed from the journalist’s article.
The article referenced the former League MVP’s son and dead brother, which caused the outburst. The investigation will come as another blow to the Sixers organization, just days after they were fined $100,000 for violating league policies.
When will Joel Embiid and Paul George return?
Following the loss against the Grizzlies, the Sixers have not tumbled to 1-4 to begin the season in the absence of Embiid and Paul George. The trio of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey was all set to debut as one of the most formidable trios offensive trios.
However, early-season injuries have kept them from seeing the floor together so far. Both Embiid and George missed out on the game as they continued rehabilitation.
George suffered a bone bruise during the preseason, leading him to be sidelined indefinitely. Embiid, on the other hand, has been under constant rehab for a plaguing knee injury, which kept him limited in last year’s playoffs. With no timeline to return on either superstar, the 76ers could be in deep trouble soon.
