Rugged 6-Foot-4 Forward Placed on Waivers; Hughes and Canadiens Hold Priority to Claim

We’ve had some action on the NHL waivers in the past few hours.

I’m not sure if this would interest Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton, but know that the rugged forward Zack MacEwen is currently available for free, and the Montreal Canadiens have priority for his acquisition.

We’ll find out at 2 PM today if the enforcer has been claimed or not.

Zack MacEwen placed on NHL waivers

This is what the Ottawa Senators announced in the past few hours via their official page.

«The Ottawa Senators made two roster moves on Sunday.

The club recalled forward Zack Ostapchuk from Belleville while placing forward Zack MacEwen on waivers.»

This will be a story to follow today, as several teams hate playing against MacEwen but would love to have him on their side.

He is clearly in the category of players that are unpleasant to face.

MacEwen, 28 years old, is a big forward standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 227 pounds. He has accumulated 34 points in 235 career NHL games, along with more than 300 penalty minutes.

He has been productive in the AHL, with 21 points in his last 27 games «down there.»

In the QMJHL, MacEwen played with the Gatineau Olympiques (74 points in 66 games) and the Moncton Wildcats (40 points in 66 games).

And you, do you think he will be claimed by one of the teams in the NHL seeking toughness?

Story to follow.
