It looks like Ray Lewis may benefit from what Deion Sanders has started.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Hall of Fame Baltimore Ravens linebacker has become a major candidate for the next head coach at Florida Atlantic University.

Schefter mentioned Sanders’s success with the Colorado Buffaloes as a reason why college football programs may want to hire former NFL players as coaches.

“Following the Deion Sanders-to-Colorado model, Hall-of-Fame linebacker Ray Lewis has emerged as a candidate to become the next head coach at Florida Atlantic University, sources tell ESPN,” Schefter wrote on Twitter.

Deion Sanders opened the door for things like this after he was hired as the head coach at Jackson State. Soon, Tennessee State announced the arrival of Eddie George as its next head coach, and Ed Reed would be Bethune-Cookman’s head coach before things went awry.

Lewis is a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Baltimore Ravens.

Florida Atlantic University is in need of a head coach following the dismissal of Tom Herman.

Deion Sanders Previously Spoke On Ray Lewis Wanting To Coach At An HBCU

Ray Lewis and Deion Sanders have been close for years.

He has even spoken to his players at Colorado.

In 2021, Deion spoke about how Ed Reed and Lewis were interested in head coaching positions.

“Guys like Ray Lewis, I know who’s tremendously interested, Ed Reed are certainly guys that I truly know are interested in the love, the game and love kids,” the Hall of Famer said to Rashad Milligan of the Clarion Ledger. “This could be a phenomenal thing.”

As far as know, Lewis getting set to be a head coach will be his first job on a coaching staff.
