As Matt Drake points out, when reviewing the footage, we can see that Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki was robbed of a goal yesterday.
It’s really not the end of the world, as the Habs eventually scored anyway, but Suzuki should have had his hat trick in Buffalo.
Toward the end of the game, as Suzuki was about to complete his hat trick on an empty net, he was clearly tripped by a Sabres player.
In that situation, the referee should have immediately awarded the goal to Suzuki.
Nick Suzuki should have had his hat trick yesterday
See what Matt Drake reports.
«It doesn’t matter since the Canadiens scored, but this should technically have been an allowed goal.
Suzuki was gone with an empty net and gets tripped. It’s one of the few times where a goal can simply be awarded by the refs»
This falls into the «good to know for the future» category, but Suzuki was likely about to score a goal before being tripped.
That said, the Canadiens captain had an outstanding game yesterday afternoon against the Sabres, recording four points (two goals and two assists) in a 7-5 victory.
And you, were you aware of this special rule?
Nick Suzuki, 25, has accumulated 17 points in 16 games this season, including six goals, after scoring 77 points last season.
When he plays like he did yesterday, the Canadiens are very hard to beat (especially when the goalies make the key saves, of course).
