Without really intending to, young Montreal Canadiens defenseman Logan Mailloux made a concerning statement.
The young Montreal Canadiens players seem to have absolutely no understanding of Martin St. Louis’ system of play
During a press conference, Logan Mailloux mentioned that the systems in Montreal and Laval are very different, which complicates things for young players coming in.
However, the issue is that the systems in Montreal and Laval are exactly the same (according to Pascal Vincent).
«An alarming observation was made this week with Logan Mailloux and Pascal Vincent, whom we interviewed. We were discussing the famous hybrid system in Montreal, and we asked if it was the same as in Laval. Logan Mailloux said it wasn’t the same system.
And 8 minutes later, Pascal Vincent came in and said it’s absolutely the same system. There’s a misunderstanding of what is being taught to the players in Montreal.»
Vincent Demuy
Clearly, there seems to be a problem here, and it’s indeed an alarming observation.
Clearly, there is a major issue with the understanding of the system of play among the young Montreal Canadiens players, which could explain a lot of things right now.
Seeing that Logan Mailloux considers them to be two very different systems, when they are exactly the same, is not entirely normal.
It will be interesting to see if any changes will be made to facilitate this understanding, which is clearly deficient for some of the young players.
