The Boston Bruins have been in a downslide recently, and their poor play may end up costing their head coach according to NHL Insider Bill Lindsay.
Currently sitting in the basement of the Atlantic Division, the Boston Bruins have been a shell of their former self. Led by poor play from their top stars, and being absolutely dominated even though their goaltending was supposed to be a huge highlight this season.
It’s never a good sign when a team plays terribly, especially after so much success, and it looks like Jim Montgomery is on the hot seat, and according to NHL Insider Bill Lindsay; he won’t make it past November.
Coaches are often the scapegoat for a team’s poor performance asit’s their job to rally the troops and get everyone back in order. It’s just surprising to see how quickly Boston went from perennial Finals contenders to basement dwellers.
It just goes to show you how integral Patrice Bergeron was to the chemistry and morale of the Bruins. Brad Marchand hasn’t done much of anything, and with David Pastrnak the only one doing something it’s a rough time. Names like Charlie McAvoy, Elias Lindholm, and Hampus Lindholm haven’t performed to their abilities and it’s costing Boston wins, and their head coach time.
Montgomery has been around since 2022 and led Boston to an incredible 65-12-5 record in his first season, however losing a 3-1 lead to the Panthers certainly dissolved any positives they had in the regular season. Often criticized for his stubbornness, Montgomery has had a hard time with Boston fans due to his treatment of Linus Ullmark, who found himself out of town this summer; which could be a sign he was losing the locker room before this season.
With Boston currently sitting in the basement and coming off an 8-2 trouncing at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes, Montgomery’s job is certainly in jeopardy, and if Boston keeps up this terrible play then Montgomery will be celebrating Thanksgiving without a job.
