A blockbuster trade proposal has the Las Vegas Raiders sending superstar wide receiver Davante Adams to a top NFC contender in a move that would drastically shake up the race for Super Bowl 59.

Davante Adams, in his third season with the Raiders, has been the subject of trade rumors for over a year. He publicly expressed his frustration with the team on numerous occasions last season, and many folks can’t help but envision the idea of him reuniting with old friend Aaron Rodgers on the New York Jets.

The Raiders are 1-1 following a potential season-saving road win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2. But if they’re out of the playoff race leading up to the trade deadline, GM Tom Telesco may place his top offensive weapon on the trade block.

Ian Valentino of The 33rd Team proposed a blockbuster trade proposal that has the Raiders sending Davante Adams to the Detroit Lions in exchange for fellow wide receiver Jameson Williams and a 2025 second-round pick:

“We need to save Adams from playing in Vegas for another year, and Detroit’s explosive offense is the best way to maximize the rest of his career.

Detroit’s cap situation is healthy enough to absorb Adams’ $16 million base salary right now, and then minor trimming in the future makes this a palatable deal. He has $0 in guarantees beyond this season, so a restructuring could also make his contract more favorable.

In return, the Raiders clear off $17.5 million in 2024, then more than $36 million in 2025 and 2026. Taking a flier on Jameson Williams is what gets this deal across the finish line.”

Williams is off to a dazzling start for the Lions, with 10 receptions for 200 yards and one touchdown. He may be nine years younger than Adams, but Detroit already has a superstar WR1 in Amon-Ra St. Brown, to say nothing of tight end Sam LaPorta and the running back duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.

Through his first two games in 2024, Davante Adams has 14 receptions for 169 yards and one touchdown. The Raiders host the 0-2 Carolina Panthers in their home opener at Allegiant Stadium this Sunday.

Davante Adams Would Make Lions The Super Bowl Favorites

Add a future Hall of Famer like Adams to the Jared Goff-led offense, and they would have a virtually unstoppable offense. This team was a few plays away from the Super Bowl a year ago, but a superstar wideout like Adams could be the final piece needed to get them over the top.
