The New York Jets are being accused of sabotaging their interim head coach, Jeff Ulbrich, following their loss to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night.
Ulbrich replaced Robert Saleh as the team’s head coach following his firing last week. Despite losing his first game, the 47-year-old can pride himself on fostering some improvement, as the Jets weren’t far from claiming the home win.
The stand-in coach looked like a genius when he called two timeouts nearing halftime following a Bills touchdown. The move enabled Aaron Rodgers to complete a sensational Hail Mary pass, the fourth of his career, to Allen Lazard in the endzone.
Still, Rodgers’ heroics weren’t enough. The QB also fell short near the end, but he passed for 294 yards and shouldn’t be the one to shoulder the blame, according to the New York Post.
The outlet blames the Jets’ defense and kicker Greg Zuerlein, who missed two field goals. Had he scored on his attempts, we may have been talking about a 26-23 Jets win.
“The real blame belongs to Ulbrich’s coveted defense and FG kicker Greg Zuerlein, who sabotaged the Jets with a pair of missed FGs off the left upright and prevented them from a share of first place,” the publication noted.
Jeff Ulbrich Will Have A New Attractive Option Moving Forward
Ulbrich rued having watched the most electrifying throw of the season and not taking advantage of it with a win.
“We’re fortunate we have the best Hail Mary thrower in the history of this game,” he said. “He made somebody pay again. You catch those waves of momentum, you gotta ride it, and you gotta finish a team, which we didn’t do.”
Fortunately for Ulbrich, he will have Davante Adams at his disposal moving forward, possibly as early as this coming Sunday following Tuesday’s blockbuster trade.
