As the Montreal Canadiens suffered another embarrassing defeat on Tuesday night, this time against the Seattle Kraken, they are attempting to make changes.
It’s unclear if Kent Hughes or Martin St-Louis requested it, probably not, but the fact remains that the Montreal Canadiens players have been called for a meeting.
Clearly, the veterans are trying to make a difference, and it’s evident that the standards have shifted this year.
Losses like those against the New York Rangers and the Seattle Kraken are simply no longer acceptable this season.
That said, to address the team’s defensive struggles (among other things), a meeting has indeed been organized by veterans like David Savard and Mike Matheson.
They’ll be accountable to Martin St-Louis and Kent Hughes, who have already committed to “being in the playoff mix” as early as this year.
Canadiens Called for a Meeting to Get Back on Track
Yes, the defense is young, and yes, we need to be patient with these young players, but things also need to be fixed when they go this badly.
For all these valid reasons, Matheson and Savard organized an important meeting.
Let’s not forget that David Savard has a Stanley Cup ring, and actions like these taken by a veteran serve as an important reminder of the crucial role players like Savard have on a young team like the Canadiens.
It will now be interesting to see if these meetings have a tangible impact on the team’s performance in the coming weeks, starting tomorrow night against Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.
Stay tuned!
